Flip Flops are not an invention of our modern day and age. They have in fact been around for several millenia. Some people even argue that flip flop like shoes might have been the first shoes ever conceived by mankind. In Romans times those kind of shoes, much like today, were especially often worn in bathhouses and thermae. Thus, it does not come as a surprise that you can find many depictions of shoes like this in the ruins of ancient Roman public pools.
Unfortunately we cannot be 100% sure about what materials were used to produce them or what colors they usually had. But still we are able to tell that the overall design did not change much in the last two millenia.
This motive is very popular among children and thus makes for a great educational resource and can be a crossover between art class and history class. The coloring process is pretty easy and the mosaics can be reused several times. Keeping costs low and children happy.
