Cave Canem Mosaic Set According to a Temple From Pompeii
In the autumn of the year 79, following the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius, the Roman city Pompeii was almost completely buried. The city in the southwest of the country had 8000-10.000 inhabitants. Because of preceding earthquake shocks, a big part of the population had already left their home days before.
For almost 1500 years, the city was left covered under an up to 25 meters high layer of volcanic ash and pumice, before it was given free for researchers to be excavated. The mosaic Cave Canem is taken from the vestibule in the House of the Tragic Poet (The Homeric House), it was meant to warn visitors and intruders of the guard dog. It is the template for our Cave Canem mosaic set. This old, Pompeiian house is still amazing archaeologists and visitors, as we know nothing about its inhabitants. It is created in the typical style of the area and possesses a whole slew of extraordinary mosaic floors and frescos, which are famous far beyond the country’s frontiers because of their beauty and high quality.
With the Cave Canem mosaic set you can wake joy while doing handicraft and learning about history and arts – not only among friends of dogs. After laying the stones, the mosaic can additionally be grouted with conventional joint compound, but it is not necessary if the stones are laid quite tightly.
The Cave Canem mosaic set is a great gift idea!
